PRODUCTS

New eco-design and measurement strategies for continuous improvement of the environmental performance of products.

Accessibility and Easy Maintenance

GMR ENLIGHTS products have been developed to facilitate accessibility and maintenance. Most units can be opened to replace internal components without the use of tools.

This feature allows a considerable extension of product life, allowing only damaged components to be replaced and repaired.

Disassemblability and recyclability

A design that pays attention to reparability, which also looks at the disassemblability of the entire product to facilitate end-of-life management, allowing the separation of the different materials in order to deliver them to the various recovery chains. This approach allows a higher product recycling rate of over 90% on average.

Design to last

All GMR ENLIGHTS luminaires are conceived and designed to last, taking into consideration the different environmental conditions, temperature changes and the presence of elements that can normally damage their operation. The choice of components and materials is aimed at guaranteeing the perfect functioning of the product even in the most adverse conditions.

Refitting e upgrading

A solution applicable to the majority of GMR ENLIGHTS’ products to encourage the replacement of certain product components in order to ensure greater luminaire durability. A careful refitting design that also integrates aspects of product upgrading in terms of lighting performance and energy efficiency.

Design for circularity

The choice of circular materials, efficient use of resources and the reduction and recycling of waste generated during the production process are among the priorities of the company, which annually sets itself continuous improvement goals. The application of various circular design strategies are an integral part of the design office’s work.

Technology and energy efficiency

GMR ENLIGHTS has for years been constantly investing in research for innovative lighting technologies that can reduce the amount of energy used while ensuring compliance with legal requirements for street lighting.

Measuring circularity

GMR ENLIGHTS, which has always focused on innovation and the implementation of strategies to improve the environmental performance of its products, has started to apply quantitative circularity measurement strategies for all products. The measurement makes use of specific KPIs for the lighting sector as indicated by the EU’s ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation).

The results of the measurement are compared internally within the company to identify possible actions for continuous improvement.

LCA and EPD

In addition to the aspects of measuring circularity, GMR ENLIGHTS has initiated an Environmental Product Footprint (LCA) and Carbon Footprint (CFP) assessment activity. For this reason, a series of EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) were carried out for some appliances in order to evaluate actions for environmental comparison and improvement. The company’s desire and objective is to design and propose to the market and to its customers new lighting systems that are increasingly better performing from an environmental point of view, considering their entire life cycle.

MATERIALS

The correct choice of materials is a fundamental component in the implementation of strategies towards a lower environmental impact considering the entire product life cycle. This is why GMR ENLIGHTS is constantly searching for innovative material solutions that combine the use of recycled material and recyclability.

Supply chain traceability

Looking ahead to the forthcoming development and market introduction of the EU Digital Product Passport, GMR ENLIGHTS has initiated a specific activity on the traceability of technical and environmental information throughout the supply chain with a focus on the material resources used. This activity is also carried out with the involvement of suppliers in the supply chain.

End-of-life scenarios

For GMR ENLIGHTS, evaluating the different end-of-life scenarios of products and thus materials is crucial to make the choice of materials more functional towards the best possible recovery and recycling.

Circularity of materials

By measuring the circularity of products, all the environmental characteristics of the materials used are assessed, including by verifying the veracity of the information on composition through third-party certificates. In addition, the choice of materials is made taking into account an input and output approach to achieve the most functional solutions in terms of efficient use of resources.

Packaging

All packaging used by GMR ENLIGHTS is designed for the best possible optimisation of transport volumes and is made of cardboard to facilitate total recycling.
